Rehab lead generation means driving qualified inquiries to a treatment center through compliant paid media, SEO and referral systems, then measuring the result in verifications of benefits (VOBs) and admissions. A well-built program produces calls and form fills from insured prospects, stays inside LegitScript, Google, Meta and TCPA rules, and plugs into your CRM and admissions team.
At RehabAdmit, we build and run rehab lead generation programs for residential, IOP, PHP and detox operators doing $3M to $30M a year, on a flat fee. Our clients include Safe Haven Recovery, Quest 2 Recovery, and Quest Behavioral Health.
What rehab lead generation looks like when it's done right
A common story: the center hires a marketing partner, leads come in, admissions stay flat, and no one can say which channel produces admits and which burns budget. That is a systems problem more than a marketing problem.
A working rehab lead generation program has six connected pieces:
- LegitScript-certified paid campaigns on Google and Meta (Microsoft Advertising on request), with copy written to pass addiction ad reviews.
- Intake landing pages that ask about insurance, level of care and location before the admissions team sees the inquiry.
- TCPA-safe consent capture with timestamp, IP and user-agent logging for every submission.
- CRM automation that routes inquiries to the right admissions counselor within minutes, not hours.
- Admissions playbooks so every counselor works inquiries the same way: script, cadence and handoff to insurance verification.
- Attribution reporting that ties every VOB and admission back to the ad, keyword or campaign that produced it.
Miss any one of these and the whole system leaks.
Which channels work for rehab lead generation?
Google Search Ads (LegitScript-certified)
Highest intent, highest cost. Google restricts addiction treatment ads, and in the US you need LegitScript certification plus Google’s own certification to run them. LegitScript’s published fees are $1,395 to $1,595 per facility to apply and $2,550 to $3,095 per facility each year once approved. Clicks are expensive: SEMrush US data we pulled on October 4, 2026 puts “drug rehab” at $37.96 and “detox near me” at $34.30 per click. Campaigns need structure by level of care and constant negative keyword work to keep spend off information seekers.
Microsoft Advertising (on request)
Not a default channel for us today, but we run it on request. Same certification, smaller audience. LegitScript lists Microsoft next to Google and Meta as a platform that relies on its certification, so the same approval opens a second search channel.
Meta (Facebook + Instagram)
More volume, more qualification work. Meta requires LegitScript certification and written permission from Meta for addiction treatment ads in the US, and its personal attributes rule bars ads that imply the viewer or a family member has a health condition. Creative speaks to families and to the program itself.
SEO for rehab
Slower, but the click itself is free. “Rehab near me”, “IOP in [city]” and “detox in [state]” searches cost real money on paid search, and organic rankings capture the same intent without a per-click charge. Google’s guidance on hiring an SEO says “the SEO will need four months to a year” to implement improvements and see potential benefit. It takes location and level-of-care pages, clean site architecture, and links from behavioral health publications and directories.
Referral and outbound systems
The channel many operators underinvest in. Warm outreach to interventionists, EAPs, family medicine groups and hospital discharge planners builds a referral base that paid media can’t buy. In SAMHSA’s 2024 TEDS report, 50.4% of admissions were referred by the client or friends and family, so alumni and family touchpoints matter too. Referral partners are never paid per referral; that is illegal under EKRA.
The math that matters: cost per VOB = cost per lead ÷ lead-to-VOB rate. Webserv’s 2025 benchmark shows $406 per lead and a 15.9% lead-to-VOB rate, which works out to $2,552 per VOB and $16,608 per admit. Our math: if the same leads completed VOBs at twice the rate (31.8%), cost per VOB would drop to about $1,276 with no change in ad spend. The fastest lever is usually intake, not the click price.
Why do generalist agencies struggle with rehab?
Treatment centers aren’t like other lead gen clients. They carry compliance rules (LegitScript, HIPAA, TCPA, EKRA), ethical duties in how they message people in crisis, and admissions workflows (VOB, level-of-care assessment, insurance authorization) that a generalist agency rarely knows.
The result: expensive campaigns, unqualified inquiries, and no line of sight from spend to admits. The fix is usually the same: rebuild intake with qualification, install CRM automation, and train the admissions team to work paid and organic inquiries differently.
How RehabAdmit does rehab lead generation
Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute growth audit. We look at your current cost per lead and per VOB, admission rates by channel, CRM data hygiene, LegitScript status and admissions workflow. From there we quote a 90-day rebuild scoped to your specific bottleneck.
Typical rebuild sequence:
- Weeks 1-2: LegitScript review, CRM cleanup, intake landing page rebuild, TCPA consent hardening, admissions playbook draft.
- Weeks 3-6: New paid campaigns launched (Google and Meta), attribution tracking wired, admissions team trained on the new flow, weekly reporting dashboard live.
- Weeks 7-12: Tuning based on the first 6 weeks of data. Kill or scale campaigns on cost per VOB and cost per admit, not cost per lead. SEO foundation laid.
Every engagement includes our guarantee: if you don't see measurable admissions growth in 90 days, we keep working for free until you do.

Frequently asked questions
What does rehab lead generation cost?
Our fee is a flat monthly retainer of $5K to $25K, with no minimum term and ad spend separate. To judge results, measure per VOB (verification of benefits) and per admission, not per lead. What we see running detox and residential campaigns: cost per VOB runs from a couple hundred dollars up to about $2,000 (the top end is out-of-network). Cost per admission from Google and directories runs $2,000 to $5,000 in-network and $7,000 to $15,000 out-of-network. Admissions from SEO run from a few hundred dollars up to $2,000 to $5,000. For a published comparison, Webserv’s 2025 benchmark across its PPC clients shows $406 per lead, $2,552 per VOB and $16,608 per admission.
Do I need to be LegitScript-certified to run Google Ads?
Yes, in the US. Google requires addiction treatment advertisers to hold LegitScript certification and to be certified with Google. LegitScript charges a nonrefundable application fee of $1,395 to $1,595 per facility, plus an annual fee of $2,550 to $3,095 per facility once approved. It is a yearly cost, not a one-time fee. If you aren’t certified yet, we help you prepare before we launch campaigns.
Can Meta ads work for rehab despite the restrictions?
Yes, within two limits. Meta allows addiction treatment ads in the United States only for advertisers certified with LegitScript and with written permission from Meta. Meta’s personal attributes rule also bars ads that assert or imply a person’s physical or mental health, or that of their family. So the copy talks about the program and speaks to families, without telling the viewer they have a problem.
How long does SEO take to work for rehab?
Plan in months. Google’s guidance on hiring an SEO says “the SEO will need four months to a year” to implement improvements and see potential benefit (as reported by The SEM Post). We run SEO next to paid search: paid produces VOBs now while SEO builds.
What CRM do you use for rehab lead management?
We work in the CRM you already use. The workflow matters more than the brand: routing rules, follow-up cadence, and reporting that ties each admission back to its source.
Do you work with new treatment centers or only established ones?
Mostly established ones. Our fit is operators doing $3M to $30M a year with an admissions team in place. For pre-launch centers we can consult on setup, LegitScript preparation and tracking.
What is a realistic cost per admit for rehab in 2026?
Two reference points. Webserv’s 2025 benchmark, aggregated across all its active PPC clients ($16.5M in spend, 40,652 leads, 994 admits), shows $16,608 per admit. What we see running detox and residential campaigns: $2,000 to $5,000 per admission in-network and $7,000 to $15,000 out-of-network from Google and directories. When you compare agencies, compare the same funnel stage.
How do you filter for VOB-qualified leads?
We ask about insurance, level of care and location at intake, before your admissions team spends assessment time. The goal is more completed VOBs per dollar. In Webserv’s 2025 data, only 15.9% of paid leads completed a VOB.
Do you route leads directly to my admissions team or hold them first?
Direct, in real time: a push to your CRM plus an SMS or call alert on the same event, with an optional qualification layer if your team is at capacity. Webserv writes that lead to VOB gaps “are almost always a lead quality or speed-to-contact issue,” so we build for speed first.
What happens if my admissions team can't handle the lead volume?
We slow inbound before we swamp your team. Two options: pause the highest-volume campaigns for a while, or add a first-touch qualification layer that only passes VOB-eligible inquiries to your team. A wasted inquiry is worse than one you never paid for.
Are TCPA-compliant lead forms different from standard forms?
Yes. For autodialed or prerecorded marketing calls and texts, the FCC rule requires prior express written consent: a signed agreement (an e-signature counts) with a clear disclosure that the person authorizes those calls and does not have to agree as a condition of purchase. The TCPA lets consumers sue for $500 per violation, and a court can triple that if the violation was willful. We build every form to capture and log that consent.
Do you handle Google Business Profile for rehab centers?
Yes. Setup covers claiming and verifying the profile, categories, service area, and a review request flow tied to your CRM. Review replies must never confirm that someone was a patient. HHS’s civil rights office has said that disclosing patient information in replies to negative reviews “is not allowed”.
Do you own the leads or does my facility own them?
Your facility owns every inquiry, the ad accounts and the tracking numbers. When the engagement ends, you keep the lead history, the CRM data and the tracking setup.
What reporting cadence do you provide?
Weekly written reports with cost per lead, cost per VOB, cost per admit, VOB rate, and admit rate by source. A monthly review call. A live dashboard for anything urgent between reports.
What is your minimum engagement length?
There is no minimum term. We back the work with a 90-day guarantee: if you don't see measurable admissions growth in 90 days, we keep working for free until you do.
How do you handle call tracking and attribution?
Paid channels get tracking numbers that swap by visitor source; organic gets static tracking numbers. Every call ties back to a source, keyword, campaign and landing page, and recordings feed your CRM so admissions can review missed calls. We use a call tracking tool such as CallRail, WhatConverts or CallTrackingMetrics, based on your stack.
Do you work with facilities that pay per admit versus flat retainer?
No per-admit pricing. We charge a flat monthly retainer of $5K to $25K for services, with no minimum term. We treat per-admission pricing as patient brokering risk and won't price that way. Federal law (EKRA) makes it a crime to pay anyone to induce a referral to a treatment facility, with fines up to $200,000 and up to 10 years in prison for each occurrence, and its exception for staff and contractors only covers pay that doesn't vary with referrals. Florida, California and New Jersey have their own bans. Tracking your own cost per admission internally is fine.
Can you help with post-treatment alumni marketing?
Yes. People close to the patient matter: in SAMHSA’s 2024 TEDS report, 50.4% of admissions were referred by the client or friends and family. We set up alumni CRM sequences, events and review requests. We never pay for referrals.
What ad platforms do you run for rehab?
Google Ads and Meta, with Microsoft Advertising available on request. All three rely on LegitScript certification for US addiction treatment ads. We don’t build remarketing lists for addiction treatment, because Google’s health policy bars advertiser-curated audiences, such as your data segments and Customer Match, for addiction counseling ads.
How do you handle out-of-state leads for a single-facility operator?
Your call. By default we include out-of-state inquiries if your facility accepts them and has intake capacity, always with a location question up front so your admissions team knows the travel, family and insurance picture before the first call.
What sets RehabAdmit apart from other rehab marketing agencies?
We are a specialist team for treatment centers doing $3M to $30M a year. We charge a flat fee and report in cost per VOB and cost per admit. We are not a lead vendor and we don’t sell calls. See our 8-agency comparison for how we stack up.
